We got together for rehearsal last night, spending most of our time working through the intro to I, Awake. A solid hour and a half was spent working out a bass/rhythm part for a small (2 bar) section, which no doubt left the other band members ruing the day they ever met Chris by the end of the night. It does seem like a ridiculous amount of time to have to spend on such a small section, but music of this complexity demands both fine attention to detail and a healthy amount of head scratching to try to discover the best way to arrange things. In the end we came up with 2 options, which we will listen to later and make a decision on. Everyone agreed that although the intro has taken a great deal of time to arrange, what we came up with sounds like what should naturally be played, so we must be on the right track, at least so far.

We also spent a little time getting into the last section of the intro which calls for a half time feel, but that’s a whole other can o’ worms…
