Keyboardist Steve Kubica joins Falling Edge

Falling Edge has confirmed that Steve Kubica (whom the band has been in contact with over the past several weeks) will be joining the band on keyboards. Steve came out to rehearsal earlier this week, sitting in on Next Time Around and I, Awake (which is still in its infancy).

With Steve in the band, the Falling Edge line up is finally complete and the band is confident that the remaining songs for the CD will be completed soon, especially since Chris is now freed up to concentrate on guitar and vocals. The focus over the next few weeks will be on writing and arranging keyboard parts for Next Time Around (that song is completely done except for the keys) and completing I, Awake.

I, Awake at rehearsal

Earlier in the week the band finally got together after a few weeks hiatus to work on the final track of the album, I, Awake. Although nothing was finalized, there were a lot of different ideas thrown around for the intro (which is a good 3 minutes or so in length) in what was a very productive night. With any luck the intro will come together at next rehearsal.

River Rock performance

Falling Edge performed at the River Rock in Chatham this past Friday as part of the CK On The Edge festival. The night began with the Andy Tattersall quintet. Andy and all the members of his band gave an awesome performance (not surprisingly).  Falling Edge also gave a stellar performance that was enjoyed by all in attendance. We hope to have some video footage posted soon, so keep an eye out for that.

With that show behind them, the band is looking forward  to returning to recording the remaining parts of Next Time Around and writing and arranging the rest of  I, Awake early next week. There has been some speculation that a keyboard player may be stopping in for a jam or two, but that's yet to be confirmed.

I, awake at rehearsal

We haven't had much time to work on I, awake (the last song for the CD) over the past few weeks, as we've been busy rehearsing our existing material for an upcoming gig (the band plans to make an official announcement on this shortly).  We did get a chance to mess around with the intro earlier this week, however, and got some good ideas laid down for it. Everyone is now pretty excited about this next song and that intro in particular, because Jim and Kevin were both scratching their heads after listening to the guitar part Chris gave them. Having gone through it together really opened everyone's eyes to possibilities for this section we hadn't even imagined before. It'll be interesting to see how that one actually ends up...

Rehearsal tonight

We apologize for being a little remiss about keeping everyone up to date about the album's progress. Although we're still working on things, we took a short break from recording to experiment with a new way of rehearsing our material. In the absence of a keyboard player, we decided to try triggering our keyboard parts from computer. Although not ideal, it allows us to practice the music properly and frees up Chris to be able to play guitar solos (up until now he's had to play the keyboard parts on guitar during rehearsal!). There were a few minor glitches (the band is waiting for a special switch to come in, so Chris had to step on a laptop keyboard with his toe - I'm sure you can imagine how things sometimes didn't get triggered as planned), but overall this method worked great, and the band was very happy with the outcome and the new level they could take the music to. With any luck, Kevin will be recording drum tracks for Next Time Around next week. We'll be sure to let you know how that works out.

Next Time Around electric guitar parts finished

Much of the day yesterday saw Chris recording the electric guitar parts for Next Time Around. Well, not exactly recording - a few hours was spent experimenting with different mics and mic placements, but it really only took about a half an hour to get all the parts down. Funny how it always takes so much longer to get the sound right than it does to actually nail the track...

Next Time Around guitar parts recorded

Chris put in a marathon recording session this past Tuesday and got all the guitar parts for our next song, Next Time Around, done. We had planned to spend much of the week on those parts, but in an unexpected turn of events, things went much better than planned (not that we're complaining). We had a solid rehearsal tonight and continued work on I, Awake, and tried out a couple ideas Kevin had for drums in Next Time Around. We should be recording the drums and bass for that song in the next few weeks, while Chris composes and practices keyboard parts.

Crippled by Fear keyboard parts done

Chris got the last of the keyboard parts for Crippled by Fear done yesterday, which pretty much brings that song to a close. There is still one small acoustic guitar part that needs to be recorded, and some short vocal harmony sections, but basically, it's done. We plan to begin recording the next track, Next Time Around, next week.
