It’s been a while since we’ve been able to get any recording done as Rob has been relocating and setting up his studio, but this weekend we got some great drum tracks laid down for another song from the upcoming Falling Edge album. This one took a little longer to record because of its atmospheric quality, and Rob admits to have been somewhat out of his comfort zone (and glad to be there) with this style of song.
We now have drums recorded for 3 of the 6 songs that will appear on the next album, and with Rob’s studio now in place, things should move a little quicker. Our current plan is to get the 2 shorter songs done 1st before tackling the mammoth 27 minute long epic, as that one will inevitably present some challenges to its completion.
It is with great sadness that Rob and I received the news of Neil Peart’s untimely passing.
Neil was not just a great drummer, he was a great musician and played every part with stunning musicality, not to mention his unrivaled lyrical prowess, which in itself was somehow musical. I’ve been inspired and influenced by him both as a composer and guitarist, and I know Rob found great inspiration in his playing. His contribution to modern music simply cannot be overstated. Thank you Neil for the time and sacrifice you put into your craft that those of us you didn’t even know would be so greatly enriched.
Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace.
Well, at long last the final song for the next Falling Edge album is complete. At over 27 minutes long, it’s been a long haul to get it finished, but it sounds great, and we’re really looking forward to recording it and getting it out. Rob and I will likely wait until after Christmas to begin recording again, but hopefully we’ll be able to get things moving more quickly in the new year.
Speaking of Christmas, I’ve decided to include a new recording of a Christmas song I released as a solo artist a few years ago. Here’s the original recording:
Also, as a follow up to our last post, I’m happy to announce that I was awarded 2nd place in the Independent Prog Awards multi-instrumental category for 2019. I’m told that there was actually a tie for first, and that a tie-breaking vote needed to be called to come up with a winner. I was in the chat room the night of the awards and the music/musicians I was up against was top notch, so I’m humbled and honoured to have received this award. Thanks to all who voted for me and listened to the music.
