Jim spent much of yesterday afternoon recording the bass parts for Next Time Around. As with any recording, a good (some might say inordinate) amount of time was spent getting some great tone happening, but it always pays off in the end. The band is glad that all the instrumental sections of Next Time Around are now complete. Once the vocals are done, we’ll have another one in the can and ready to go.
Yesterday Steve finished up the keyboard parts for Next Time Around. This leaves only the bass and vocals left to record on this one, which we should be getting to before too long. The completion of the keys on this tune also now allows Steve to focus more of his energy on I, Awake, which is the last song to be recorded for the upcoming album.
As the title says, we had a very productive jam tonight. We were able to get parts written for all of the intro to I, Awake except for the last couple bars. We still need to work on some keyboard parts in the last little bit as well, but everyone was very happy (and, quite frankly, a little shocked) with our progress tonight. Now that the basic parts are happening, we’ll be able to address some of the more intricate aspects of this piece, like keyboard and bass harmonies.
We also anticipate finishing recording the keyboard parts for Next Time Around later in the week.
